Developmental Milestones – 2 years (24 months)

As your baby enters his second year and becomes a toddler, he will begin to walk, and even develop some speech.  He will also begin to explore boundaries established by your rules as well as his  own physical and developmental limits.

Additional milestones include:

MOVEMENT SKILLS

  • Walks alone
  • Pulls toys behind him while walking
  • Begins to run
  • Kicks a ball
  • Climbs up and down on furniture unassisted

FINGER SKILLS

  • Scribbles
  • Builds a tower of 4 or more blocks
  • Turns over container to pour out contents
  • Uses 1 hand more frequently than the other

LANGUAGE/SOCIAL SKILLS

  • Points to an object or picture that is named
  • Says several single words (15-18 months)
  • Says simple phrases (18-24 months)
  • Uses 2-4 word sentences (24 months)
  • Repeats overheard conversation
  • Imitates other’s behavior
  • Increased independence and defiant behavior

COGNITIVE SKILLS

  • Begins to sort by color or shape
  • Begins make-believe play
